James O. Fraioli ("FRAY-o-lee") is an award-winning writer and filmmaker. He is the creator and co-producer of the hit television series Alaska Wing Men for National Geographic Television, which takes an unprecedented look at the risks pilots in Alaska face flying the country's most dangerous skies. The series airs on the National Geographic Channel and is based on an original idea Fraioli researched and developed in 2010. The first three episodes of Alaska Wing Men premiered Jan 10, 2011. On a night when national television audiences were glued to the BCS championship, Alaska Wing Men garnered strong ratings, building an audience steadily from hour to hour, and rating nearly as well as Border Wars (routinely one of National Geographic's highest-rated programs). National Geographic executives were so pleased with Alaska Wing Men's performance Monday night, they commissioned 7 more episodes the following day. Alaska Wing Men is currently in production in Alaska and new episodes will air Fall 2011.
Fraioli is the co-producer of Explorer: Inside Death Row for National Geographic Television. The film takes a rare look at the frequent executions that take place in Huntsville, and is based on an original idea Fraioli researched and developed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The film premiered on the National Geographic Channel July 12, 2009. On May 5, 2010, the film received a coveted award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences exemplifying "Television with a Conscience." Other recipients of the award include Jerry Bruckheimer, Maria Shriver, and Al Gore.
Fraioli has also produced content for Discovery Channel's Shark Week, KMOV Channel 4, and spent more than 10 years in the motion-picture industry in Los Angeles, working in various capacities for Paramount Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, and Warner Bros on more than 20 feature film and television projects.
He is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
